 Fantastic TV, stunning picture, great price January 6, 2009
The picture is stunningly beautiful, when watching HD-DVD or Blu-Ray DVD's. Regular DVD's are also very sharp when played on an upconverting DVD Player. Analog TV channels look pretty bad on this 50" screen, which is normal.
I also like its sound system. Judging for what it is (not an audiophile-type, not a surround sound, but a high quality 10W each two-channel stereo system), it's very good. Just make sure you fine tune it on the tuning Menu screen for the best sound and also best picture.
A small negative - the anti-reflective coating on the glass of the screen is not very effective. Reflections are significant. However, if you place it right, don't watch it with lamps or any shiny objects in front of the screen, cover your windows with blinds, if their reflections are visible, then it's not a problem at all.
A note of caution. If you will be attaching an enclosed stand yourself, do it with a helper - someone needs to hold this pretty massive TV straight on a surface, while another person attaches the stand.
Also, unlike the Samsung's stand, this stant won't swivel,
Overall it's a wonderful TV, capable of producing truly great high definition picture.

We've been heavily using this HDTV for about a month and it is a great HDTV. The image is amazing and the colors are terrific. Breathtaking, actually.
As always, Amazon's price was very competitive and their White Glove Delivery made the whole process very easy.

Great picture! 1080p to drool for! Blu-rays look amazing, the colors are crisp and the blacks are great. I could not be happier with my purchase.

We researched plasma tvs for weeks and finally decided on the Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ80U 50-inch 1080p Plasma HDTV based on the customer reviews. I could not be happier!! The tv functions beyond our expectations and within all of the customer reviews. The only function that we miss with this new tv is the lack of picture-in-picture. We are definitely having the superbowl party at our house!! TigerDirect had the best price. Just know that if you buy from TigerDirect that you will not get white glove delivery from their shipping company (Yellow). The shipping company will open the box to make sure that there is not surface damage. In addition, the shipping company does not delivery during the weekdays to residential locations. So if your product arrives on a Friday to the local wherehouse, do not expect the item to be delivered until the following weekend. Besides the slight inconvenience for delivery, I still would recommend TigerDirect.

I have had this TV for about 2 weeks. I love it!
I got it through amazon via OneCall. I ordered it on a Saturday, it arrived the following Wednesday. The wall mount bracket came on Friday and by Friday night it was up on the wall.
It has great picture, and good sound quality. The sound doesn't compare to what one get coming from a home theater system, but these are TV speakers! If you want crystal clear sound, get external speakers. It is possible to tailor the bass and treble to where you want them to be. I think it is more than adequate for TV speakers.
The picture is just outstanding! There are several settings available to allow the user to set the color level, tint, brightness, contrast, etc. to suit the users preferences, and the lighting situation of the room where the TV is located. The blacks are rich and deep, the reds are bright, and the yellows are sunny.
I have had no problems with image retention. even when a particular screen is paused for several hours. The TV has an automatic image retention correction which requires no attention from the user, or the user can use a scrolling white bar against a black screen whenever desired.
The set has an anti reflective screen, and the only time I have noticed any glare or reflection is when the light directly behind the couch is on.
You will want to install all the cables you think you will ever use before you mount the TV to a wall, because it's going to be very difficult getting them in the right spot once it's up there.
Selecting the input device going into the TV (cable box, antenna, DVD player, video game, etc.) is very simple. Simply select the appropriate input jack location from a menu, and press 'select.' Works great!
I was a bit concerned over the amount of heat that plasma TV's generate, but I needn't have worried. This set has built in fans that do a tremendous job of keeping the unit cool. I put my hand on the back of the set after it had been on several hours, and it was barely even warm! This set is EnergyStar approved, so the electric bill shouldn't suffer.
How Panasonic got all this quality into a set for such a low price, and still make a profit on it, is beyond me. But I'm glad they did!
I did a lot of research before buying this set, comparing plasma and LCD sets. I had it narrowed down to a plasma, and couldn't decide between this unit and a Samsung. After careful study of all the user reviews I could find, I went with this one.
This is the set to buy!
