5 out of 5 stars Excellent picture and value, highly recommended   July 28, 2008

When I bought this TV over a year ago, I was amazed at the picture vs. several other brands. At the store, it was right next to a Bravia which was $800 more. The picture on the Bravia was a little better, and I mean only a little. Certainly not $800 better. I purchased the Vizio since it was my first flat-panel tv and I didn't want to break the bank.
Wow, was I impressed with the picture. A few months later I got a Blu-Ray player and the movies and shows on it look absolutely stunning. Has great color and contrast ratio in its price range, HDMI hook-ups (Blu-Ray player) and plenty of HD inputs for my XBOX 360, camcorder, etc. Nice menus, very easy to use.

Of course, if you are looking at LCD vs. Plasma, then you are aware that there is no glare on an LCD picture, while on a Plasma, there is a severe glare that can be very distracting. My TV was the envy of my entire familiy, and prompted my brother and dad to go out and buy the same TV. They love theirs.

Excellent buy, won't find a better quality, picture, or size of screen for the money.

5 out of 5 stars Good Price and Value   April 2, 2008

I have had this tv for a week and it impresses me. Right now I have just an analog signal and the picture looks good at 480p. It has even picked up some hd channels and one is at 1080p and that picture is amazing. I have not watched a dvd at hd quality yet but the 480p quality was good when I watched The Matrix Reloaded, The Incredibles, and Turistas. One of the best features of this tv is the ability to double as a computer monitor. Just this weekend I had some school work to do and I had it hooked up to my tv and my lady wanted to watch tv so I turned on the pip (pop setting) and it split the screen in half so she could watch tv and I could do my work. Now any tv that settles that dispute gets an A in my book. The set does taking some tweaking to get the picture that you want though. Right now it is mounted to a tv stand with a mounted back and it fit with no problems.

This weekend I plan on getting digital cable reinstalled and I will report back on the hd quality and when I purchase a upconverting dvd player I will report back on that also.

Price + value= great deal.

I am updating my review. I now have comcast digital cable with HD hooked up and the picutre comes through at 1080i and it is amazing. I wish it would come through at 1080p. I watched the Memphis and UCLA game this weekend and this is how sports should be viewed. I also purchased the Sony upconverting DVD player and that picute looks good on here and it comes through at 1080p.

We recently were looking to purchase a big screen television w/ HDMI capabilities for my husbands laptop to hook up to. We love the picture quality expecially since we live in a small apartments with light fixtures everywhere. You don't see the reflection of the light bulbs clearly on your screen as clearly as with a regular tv. The sound quality was so good we were able to pack up our surround sound system and use just the sound from the television. The tv was a goood purchase for the price paid and the color coded cord plug-ins on the back make it easier to set up b/c your not trying to figure out the best way to wire your other electronics. I would recommend to anyone wanting a good 1080p television for less than the other brands.

5 out of 5 stars Bright and clearly affordable   January 21, 2008

This is my first LCD HDTV. I have other TVs which are capable of high definition. though not at the 1080p level. I was a bit hesitant to buy this particular set, knowing little about Vizio. I have had this TV in my bedroom for a year now and I firmly believe it performs as well as any 1080p set on the market, even those costing far more.

First let's talk about LCD vs. plasma. An LCD unit will last on the average about three times as long as a plasma set. This longevity is directly related to the cooler temperatures which LCDs produce. LCDs are 50 to 100 per cent lighter than plasma sets as well. For this you give up a slight difference in viewing angle. If you will watch your TV head on, as I do, this is not an issue.

1080p TVs make excellent computer monitors, although a 42 inch display seems more suited for commercial displays than work spaces. This Vizio does lack front panel input jacks, but the rear panel is color coordinated for each type of input popular today. For the best HDTV you need to use HDMI. Two jacks are available.

So here's the deal. The picture is specular and the TV is affordable. If you are looking for Cadillac HD at a Chevy price, this fits the bill.
