Sam....who? January 4, 2009 I bought my 47XVT after months of research. I used calibration settings from avsforum.com & cnet.com as baselines, then tweaked them to my taste using the several viewing modes. The PQ is exceptional after calibration. It is bright, the colors pop, & the black levels are deep. The motion blur issues are easily solved by tweaking the 120hz settings under advanced video options. smooth motion- off or low, cinema- precision. With those settings I haven't had any judder or blur beyond an occasional hd broadcast glitch. I could have wasted another $300-$500 on a "big named" panel, but why??? I am very pleased with my Vizio. It is easy to say this set or that set has a better picture, but in my den, at my house, the last thing on my mind is the set in a store that may look better. I bought at S..'s C..b & I have a cheap extended warranty, which also worked in the Vizio's favor.
Pros: Very vivid colors, styled much better than older Vizios, speakers are reasonably loud, plenty of inputs, screen not very reflective, cheapest 120hz panel at the time I purchased.
Cons: Remote is flimsy & not backlit enough, black level not quite as deep as others on the market (still very deep & the glossy screen made my other consideration seem deeper, but it was also very reflective), lacks usb input, firmware set/ no user updates.
Great TV Bad support and warranty December 31, 2008 The TV is great for the price, but it was shipped with a broken plastic cable holder. When I contacted support I was told it wasn't covered under warranty because it was cosmetic, this could mean scratches, gouges etc. are ok with vizio.
great bang for your buck! December 29, 2008 a 47" LCD w/ 120hz??? can't believe its around 1500. you get a great picture for the price. to make sure you get the best picture, make sure to use HDMI cables!
Best 120HZ 47" HDTV for the money! November 30, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I returned a defective 52" Westinghouse LCD and picked up the new Vizio SV470X last month at a competing warehouse store so I've had about a month to play with the remote & tweak the picture control settings. Out of the box it set up quickly to my Dish VIP 211 Receiver and 5 year old JVC RX-DV31 Audio Video Home Theatre system. The internal speakers are decent enough for sports but audio enthusiasts will want to connect their own speakers for watching most other content. Since I only watch sports, news and movies I can't comment on the PC or video game options available with the 4 HDMI. It takes awhile to get used to the remote control which lights up in yellow while being programed. However after a few tries it proves it's usefulness and it's nice fit in your hand. Out of the box the backlight is too high for my darker room so I currently use it at about 35%, which saves on power as well. Most other settings are close to the out of box original, including the 3 color temperature settings. My only complaint is that Vizio chose not to have an audio control for high volume commercials and SD channel audio resulting in manual fixes every time you switch from an HD program. Blacks and skin colors are quite accurate and I've noticed very little blurring watching football or basketball games. Highly recommended!
