Love my cannon powershot January 8, 2009 I love it! It is small and can easily be put in a purse or bag but has so many features and the pictures are incredible. I highly suggest this camera and it was a great price!
great camera great price January 8, 2009 This camera is a huge upgrade from my last camera a 5 plus year old nikkon. this camera takes great pictures just make sure you are smart enough to order a memory card for this camera.
Fabulous camera! January 8, 2009 I have had many cameras over the years, and have had one digital camera, a Canon, I have had it for 2 years and love the brand. It came time to get my two daughters good cameras as they get ready to go off to college as Christmas gifts and searched for weeks reading about all types of digital cameras. Wanting to get them both a really nice camera with lots of options but not in the $300 range. This camera is absolutely fabulous. If I were ready for an upgrade I would get one for myself. You can do so many things with this camera I don't see any negative things about this camera and I am a huge picture freak. Not once have they run out of their batteries, and come these are 17 year olds taking pictures of anything...I would recommend this camera to anyone. I got it at a great price during Christmas from Amazon regularly a $229 camera and I got it for $159. Better than any other deal I found out there.
Great little camera January 8, 2009 My normal camera is a Canon 30D but I needed something much smaller and streamlined to take on a trip to Europe. It was quite user-friendly and I found myself only checking the manual once for something obscure.
Overall, it is a good quality camera that I would recommend. The accompanying software for uploading images is ZoomBrowser and that is another user-friendly program.
For the amateur photographer, Perfect. January 8, 2009 After a few days of review, I went ahead and bought this camera for my girl friend. With herself not ever owning a camera or being that big into electronics, this goes above and beyond all her needs.
Accompanied with an 8GB SD card, that can store 30min of video, with thousands upon thousands of images, at highest resolution--she was very excited.
The camera turns on in about .5 seconds, I am not kidding. It is extremely fast to turn on. But the bad, it takes about 3-4 seconds from FULLY pushing down the button to: Shine red light, focus, then finally take the picture. 3-4 seconds to do all that. So if you want to take a picture and it's in your pocket, you've got about 4 seconds of waiting, that is, if you are quick.
So a way around this, is to half-way hold down the button (which focuses the camera in 3 seconds), then pushing it another half-way takes the picture instantly, virtually just as fast as a camera with film.
Its got lots of fun features... We've had fun with the 'color accent.' For example, at christmas, we went up to a tomato, pointed the camera at it, put the tomato inside the little rectangle on the screen, then push the left arrow (grabs the color). After you have the color you want, take a picture! The photo is a black & white shot, with the tomato the only thing in the picture with color! Actually looks really cool. That was a 'oooo' & 'ahhh'er.
One gripe that high end users will see, is that low light, high ISO photos are not great. Good at best. Not only are the photos grainy & noisy, but the screen shows HIGH levels of noise too! However, turn on the flash, and that fixes the problem, but the issue remains: high ISO images are highly saturated with noise. Good thing most users will not notice this.
My last camera was a LUMIX, which was a great camera, but I think I coughed up around $500 for that. This is better than that 2 yr old camera, for a fraction of the cost.
I gave this camera a 5, for fun features, GREAT image quality (with lots of light; day time), Good image stabilization, great battery life, & a perfect price.
