Looking for a gaming TV? This is great for the price. January 7, 2009 I bought this item refurbished from Tiger Direct (through Amazon) at $750. Boy was I please with this purchase. All the other reviewers have covered great points, but if you're into gaming, this is a great 47 inch to have in front of you. At 6500:1 contrast and 5 ms response time all your next gen games will look flawless. Plenty of inputs, I have both a PS3 and a 360 hooked up through HDMI (which leaves me two free ports by the way), a cable box through component inputs, and my laptop through VGA.
My favorite feature is the "Enhanced Contrast" mode you can turn on through the menus. What that does is take into account the current image on the monitor and alters the contrast based on it. It's surreal when you're playing a game, walk from indoors to a sunny outdoors, and the screen brightens up just like you would experience in real life. The same goes for the opposite. This really put an extra oomph in my gaming experience.
So bottom line is, if you're looking for a 47 inch that won't cost $1600, but would act like one that would, consider this TV.
I love this tv! January 6, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this in July at BJ's Wholesale Club and I absolutely love it. I did a lot of research before deciding on a Vizio. I currently have it hooked up to a high end blu ray player, and the picture quality is outstanding. I am so happy I did not pay 15% extra or more for a Sony or Samsung, and also, it is fun for me to support the new kid on the block! 2 Big thumbs up!
GREAT TV January 2, 2009 This is my first LCD TV and I couldn't be happier. The picture is fantastic with HDMI input on HD channels, and pretty good with SD channels and comp. input. Beautiful design. Set came assembled and ready to go. 4 HDMI inputs. Decent speakers. Also has PIP you can program to show different inputs (you can watch the TV in the corner while a movie is on, etc.). Overall, a fantastic value.
Soooo satisfy December 21, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this Vizio 47" LCD TV from Costco a year ago, and can't even express how satisfy I am with this. Price per performance...... I don't think I can find any other TV better than this. Feature that I love the most of this TV is "PIP" picture in picture. On Sunday, I am watching Football game in one screen and Hocky game in other, by splitting 47" screen in 2 sections. Or watching NBA game while listening local news on other screen. LOVE IT!!!! I hooked up this TV with HD cable box and 5.1 home theater system, so you can picture me that I don't have spare time anymore. With HD connection, picture quality is so great, you can pretty much forget about 60MHz speed or 2000:1 contract ratio or whatever that most people worry and pay more money to get better picture quality. This TV will give you all that quality in HD mode. Only minor set back on this TV is that all cable connections are in the back where some TVs provide extra connections at the side of TV for easy access. But it's not a big deal, I can live with it.
Great value huge size HDTV December 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this at Costco in March 2008 and have owned it for nine months now. It is indeed a great TV and I have only two minor issues with it.
The built in clock and tv guide time listings are always incorrect. Despite fiddling around with Timezone and Daylite Savings settings, it always displays either the clock one hour off, or the tv guide listings one hour off, or both. Annoying but not a dealbreaker. There should be a software update!
Also, voices appear lower than music or sound effects on all channels. I find myself working the remote a lot in movies with both dialogue and action, or even just in Late Night talkshows. I've tried fiddling with the equalizer the problem remains.
That said, I am very happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend my 60hz Full HD tv, or the new 120-hz model.
The digital tuner is quick and easy to set up, and the remote works great. I've hooked the TV up through the component, composite and HDMI inputs to my dvd, computer, etc and all works as expected.
Also, I find 47" to be a perfect size even though it's only some eight feet from my couch. My living room has become a favorite movie night spot for quite a few friends...
