3 out of 5 stars Nice, but........   December 3, 2008
This is no doubt a good value, but be aware that digital signals are inherently 'weak' in that they require lots of power for transmission. And at this time (pre-digital switch over) most digital signals are not strong enough to carry more than a few miles. So... if like me you live more than 20 miles away from the nearest transmitting tower, you won't get any digital reception. And the analog reception on this set is about the same (or a little worse) than a cheap analog portable - I get the same one station that my old $30 set gets. Reception is enhanced by using a better set of 'rabbit ears' especially one that has a 'booster' that you plug in. But that eliminates the main use for a tv like this - to watch while traveling or camping. I'll keep mine and hope that stations boost their signals post-switch over. If I had it to do over again, though I would have waited until then and read the reviews.

4 out of 5 stars Gorgeous picture!   December 3, 2008
I ordered this October 25th and just got it last night. I had ordered it at a cheaper price elsewhere but kept getting out of stock on my order even though I had ordered it when it said it was in stock. This must be a popular item.
Unpacking it is easy. I agree that the manual is lacking and uses "mouse" print size text. No mention of the battery and what to do with the green plastic on it. I wondered if I should take it off but found a plastic tab that looks like a pull out tab once it is seated so I left it on.

I had the same error message mentioned in another review when trying to scan for channels. The instructions said to press "mode" and then "OK" but that didn't work. Pressing "menu" by itself did work after about 4 tries and it did scan easily. I have a large Terk - Amplified Indoor Antenna Model: TV5 | SKU: 3394455 which I hooked it up to and it pulled in about 90 channels. I live in Cambridge, MA. The antenna is way bigger than the TV but I had purchased it to try to get my old TV to work with a digital converter and that antenna. It was a complete wash so that's why I purchased the Haier. I was afraid that my bedroom is a dead location for reception and was really happy to finally see it pulling in any channels at all.
I haven't had a chance to try the single rabbit ear that came with it or see what it does on battery power. I am really thrilled with the quality of the picture, solid feel of the rubberized black surround and all the features in this very small TV. I'll get back to you all later about the reception without the Turk antenna, but I'm sure it has to do with location, location, location.

4 out of 5 stars Good little portable   December 2, 2008

To be honest the rave review that has been here forever made me leery. Nothing is that good. I just received my TV and here's my take on it.

The delivery has been an issue. Along with others I placed my order at the end of September with a 3-4 week delivery noted. A week later the delivery was shown to be 2-3 weeks. About the time mine should have shipped I received an email stating December 2. This turned out to be the delivery date, including ground transportation from AZ. The frustration with deliveries probably should be directed at Haier. I'm guessing they had issues meeting ship dates. This is sad because this really is a nice little TV.

I set mine up in a few minutes. While the instructions are a bit thin, they do provide adequate step by step instructions for start-up. My set picked up all the local channels in analog and digital (HD and SD) using only the stick antennae supplied. This picture is fuzzy for the analog channels but, who cares? They're going away in a couple of months anyway. The digital pictures are clear and as is the sound. It's as good of an LCD picture as I've ever seen.

I purchased my set, as all others have, to replace a small portable analog set. My initial reason was to have a battery powered TV in the event of a power outage, seeing the set I will probably set it in my bedroom to catch the ends of shows in bed.

If I had to pick a negative, it's that the antennae. component and power plugs are in the sides of the TV instead of the back. All in all, a good product for a decent price.

4 out of 5 stars This is perfect for my crowded bedroom, and it can come with me anywhere   November 28, 2008

This little TV has a battery, an AC connector and a car plug. It has an antenna and can accept input from coaxial or audio/video cables with the red, white and yellow plugs. I can even use headphones with it (not included).

It has a little easel back that lets you set it on the shelf, or you can fold it flat and take it along. I connected it up to my DVD player in a few minutes after unwrapping it, and I also tried the antenna and actually got one of the local stations with it (I live far from even the nearest station).

It is very small, but not too small for me to enjoy. I did find the taped-up battery somewhat confusing and even concerning: there were no directions for installing it, and I hope I got it right. The directions are not very good, though it is pretty easy to figure things out.

I really like my new toy!

5 out of 5 stars I love this little thing!   November 25, 2008

I just got this yesterday and it's awesome! I live in a large metropolitan area and picked up more stations than I knew existed. One of the local networks is a bit fuzzy, but I'm only using the supplied antenna and not too surprised about that. Reception is equal to, if not better than, reception I get on a regular TV with rabbit ears. I wanted this to sit on my vanity to watch local news and weather in the mornings and it suits that purpose perfectly! Plus, it'll be so nice to have a TV when the power goes out in a storm. The sound is excellent and the picture is crystal clear.

One thing to note: When using the remote control, there is a slight delay between the time you press the button and when your desired function actually starts. Not a biggy for me, though.
