Panasonic BD55 is worth it January 10, 2009 It was a gift to someone else and the recipient is very happy with it.
Amazing!! January 9, 2009 This product is nothing short of amazing! I just watched the Dark Knight for the first time in Blu-ray lastnight, and the shear detail and stunning picture quality were just eye poping. From out of the box to hooked up it took only 10 minutes. The update process took only 10 minutes as well. Connection to the TV is very simple. The only step that I could see some folks becoming confused was the connection to the internet. However on the networking screen at the very top there is a button that says test connection and that is all you have to press!! simple set up and seemingly flawless audio and picture quality puts this player at the top of my "best purchases" list!
Excellent Blu-ray Player January 9, 2009 Blu-ray is only as good as the weakest link in the chain of technology used to create the disk and the quality of the item used to display the image and sound. Low quality digitally remastered media, not originally shot in high definition, and TVs that do not produce a 1080p picture do not require the high quality Blu-ray player, but if you have the 1080p TV, this is the player for you. True HD and Blu-ray media is stunning. I never viewed a picture that looked this good before.
Panasonic DB55 January 9, 2009 I bought this player because it was the first player I found with all the audio decoders and 7.1 discrete audio outputs I could plug into my Yamaha receiver. Honestly, if your going to make the jump to BluRay you might as well buy something that will give you all that BluRay can offer. And this player can deliver! This was an upgrade from my Pioneer Elite DVD player and the picture and sound is leaps and bounds better. It raised my interest in watching more movies, like I need that. I have no negatives to say about this player except that it is slow to start up. From what I've read this is common among BluRay players. If your receiver has the audio decoders and HDMI then you can save money by buying the BD35 version instead.

Panasonic DMP-BD55K Blu-ray Disc Player
I was looking for a BD player, considered the Elite.. too large and expensive and lacked certain functions for future use. Since my AVR is Elite, figured a match.. like my other set up. Did not know if Samsung or Sony would be a problem, I have owned their products and liked them, but I also had a few things that only Panasonic could satisfy. Size... small form factor allows more air circulation was one. Another it plays everything.... not just BD. After looking at all the sites and doing research.... I took the Panasonic. Hooked it up.. put on Wall E and immediately knew this was the one. The 7.1 sound, the color, well everything. It fit every need I had. It BTW replaced an Elite DVD player that cost me 4 times as much. 100% satisfied. Panasonic also had 5 stars on BD forums.... Denon and other high priced units use the same chipset..... Get the 55... it looks great with the Elite AVR. Since the new AVR and BD players by Panasonic are so big, tall, heavy and costly.... unless you are in a closet rack mount, you do need to calculate for air movement and heat. Superb unit by any standard.
